About Me

I graduated with a B.F.A. from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1978. I currently have active memberships in The Oil Painters of America, The American Plains Artists and The National Oil & Acrylic Painters Society.  I have studied with Martin Grelle, John Buxton and Bruce Greene. I currently sell western art originals and prints and I complete private commissions. I began drawing and painting memories of my childhood spent with my rodeo cowboy grandfather and my Native American grandmother. I started drawing characters of the old west sparked by the stories of my grandparents. After moving to Texas in 2008, my subjects include painting the relationships of African Americans, Native Americans and Mexican Americans in the development of the old west.

Loveless says, "I want to express more than aesthetic beauty alone and I want to amplify the aspirations of all Americans that have contributed to make this country one of the greatest ever."

I have worked as a graphic designer, package designer and illustrator; some of my clients include: FedEx, Ralston Purina, Anheuser-Busch, Inc., Six Flags over Mid-America, Alka-Seltzer and Kentucky Fried Chicken. After freelancing as an illustrator, I opened Loveless Galleries and my wife and family of five; completed custom framing, sold prints and painted portrait commissions. I was  included in the 2022 Oil Painters of America National Exhibition and the 2022 Who's Who in America publication as a fine artist.

I am eternally grateful for my historical colleagues that have contributed to ensure the regalia, weaponry and locations are  correct for the era represented in my paintings. I received a purchase award from the Pearce Museum in Corsicana, Texas for my painting Old Town Road.  I have also exhibited at the Old West Museum in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

In 1999, I married my beautiful wife, Yvette four months after meeting her. We have five talented children and fourteen grandchildren and counting!

I enjoy sharing the begging stages of my paintings by sharing the process with my Facebook and Instagram followers.  They are so helpful in giving me comments on the process of my work and I am excited to share with them the final painting.

James Loveless with More Love BandFor several years, my wife, Yvette and I sang through the weekdays at senior center facilities to sing, dance, do comedy and give the residents entertainment to brighten their days. On the weekends, Yvette and I managed an seven-piece cover band named: More Love Band. We performed at corporate events, weddings, receptions, awards programs and private parties. When COVID-19 struck our country, we were deeply affected as well and unfortunately had to disband the group. Since then, I have devoted myself to painting full time.

On Saturday, November 12, 2022, I was honored to receive a Second Place award for my 30" x 40" painting "With Roosevelt in Cuba 1898". The art showing, "Fresh Off The Easel" was sponsored at The Art Dutch Gallery in Dallas, TX. Dutch Gallery was also celebrating 56 years in business.

Loveless was feature article in Huami Magazine.

I am so honored that my art business was displayed and a cover story created about my art in the December 2022-January 2023 issue of Humani Magazine.  HUMANI is a print and online magazine dedicated to supporting and educating humanitarians around the world about many subjects, including the arts. I am honored to be  featured in his magazine.
