This is a painting of old Fort Worth during the cattle drive days. Cowboys spent many days on the dusty prairie facing storms, snakes, wolves and native tribes. Civilization was a welcomed sight after enduring the dangers of the wild west for weeks on end. My research came from photo shoots completed at the Fort Worth Stockyards and images of the Fort Worth herd. The dress and the horses’ tact depict the era of the 1870’s.
The most enjoyable part of creating a painting is the process...the concept, positioning, colors, time period, placement of objects, subjects and substrate all make the process different each time. I'm often asked how long it takes to design, paint and complete a painting. It's always different for each effort. So my answer is always, "Not long enough!" I can always think of something I could do differently.
