A father and mother to-be came into our gallery wanting a portrait designed with the images as you see them; the mother showing her belly with the child visible inside as though they were presenting the child to the world.
If you look close you can see the countries surrounding the child inside the mother's stomach, holding the sun and the moon in her right hand. The proud father to-be stood behind the expectant mother with all the intentions of supporting her through the delivery. Surrounding the two is an arch with the adinkra symbols surrounding them.
Adinkra are symbols from Ghana that represent concepts of aphorisms. As you can see there are some examples of Adinkra symbols listed below:
Adinkra are used extensively in fabrics, logos and poetry. They are incorporated into walls and other architectural features. This concept was used in this presentation and was suggested by the father. When the concept was brought to my attention, all I could say was "wow!"
